happy birthday butterfly

happy birthday by Kimberly Crawford
Hello! Does anyone else have spring fever? I do. And it was made worse by my first sightings of robins this past weekend!
Today I am sharing a card that didn’t make the cut for a pub call. And hey, that’s always ok, because I really like this one and get to share it with you.
happy birthday by Kimberly Crawford gold foil
To create the gold foil background, I started by applying a 4x6 adhesive sheet from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L onto a piece of white cardstock. Then I die cut it using Spellbinders Fancy Lattice Expandable Patterns. The backing was peeled off, leaving behind a fun sticker. Then I applied the gold foil to the entire surface
.
The sentiment is from a fantastic new set from JustRite Stampers called, Buntings and Banners. Its darling. And I will be sharing more of it later this week!

The rest is just some doo-dads from patterned paper and kits. Be sure to check out the supply list for more details. (And for those of you who read this via an email or Google Reader, remember to please click through for those specifics.)

hello

Kimberly Crawford hello with gold accents
Hello! Hope you are keeping warm! It seems like everyone has freezing cold temperatures right now. It’s the perfect time of year to spend the afternoons and evenings stamping and creating away. Being inspired by so many ideas at CHA (and being freezing cold), I had to get creating myself.

Kimberly Crawford hello with gold accents CU 1
I started by stamping hello onto the large wooden butterfly. The banner behind was stamped onto cardstock and folded.

Kimberly Crawford hello with gold accents CU 2
The gold accents are such fun! And gold is making quite an appearance in the design world.

gold accents with Dodz and designer foils 1
To make the gold accents, I grabbed some Dodz™ Small from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and Designer Foils from Clearsnap.

gold accents with Dodz and designer foils 2
Apply the Dodz™  to your paper.

gold accents with Dodz and designer foils 3
Gently place the foil, color side up, over the top of the Dodz™. There is no need to rub or burnish the foil. If you do, the Dodz™ may pull up with the foil. Oh, well, let’s just say it does pull it up. Live and learn. :)

gold accents with Dodz and designer foils 4
See how the foil stays on the adhesive? Imagine the possibilities!!!!

Here is a close up look at the foil covered Dodz™. All the adhesives from Scrapbook Adhesives by3L work with the foil!!!

I hope you are inspired by this idea and that your imagination is running wild! Keep warm!

Happy World Card Making Day

WCM 2012

Happy World Card Making Day!!

Today is all about cards and making cards and sharing cards and getting together with friends to make cards, and, well, you get the idea.

There is a lot going on today, so be sure and visit the Paper Crafts Connection blog for contests, a blog hop, and more. And stop by Moxie Fab World Blog as well! And for those of you on Twitter, please use the hashtag #worldcardmaking day on all of your posts. I have a certain editor friend who would have a dream fulfilled if it would trend today! :)

hello sunshine
This is my first of two cards to share with you today. This card  uses one of my favorite techniques for Spellbinders die templates, stenciling.

hello sunshine CU1

Spellbinders open die design allows you to ink through the spaces and add amazing details, just like on this flower from Juliana Hudgins’ set, Jewels Flowers and Flourishes.

hello sunshine inking 1

My personal favorite way to ink through die templates is by using Clearsnap Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink and their fantastic handles. The handles have foam tips that are perfect for applying ink. (I use the Leaf version.)

hello sunshine inking 2

Start by die cutting and embossing your favorite shape. The key to this is; leave the paper in your die template. Then simply rub the foam tip onto your ink pad. Gently rub the ink over the exposed surfaces.

hello sunshine inking 3

For even more depth, layer another color of ink over the top. For this flower, I used a yellow ink first and then added an orange-yellow ink over the top. You can see below that the flower center is darker and the base of each petal.

Hope this inspires you to try inking through your die templates! Stay tuned for another card at 12 noon CST.

thank you with Avocado Arts

thank you

Today it’s a look at the next kit from Avocado Arts, Wishes and Kind Thoughts.

thank you CU

I used several of the smaller images from the set to create my own patterned paper. Its easy to do, just place the stamps on an acrylic block and stamp away. The best thing is, you can turn the block around and around to get the pattern the way you want it to look.

thank you CU how to cut pennant

And I wanted to show you how easy it is to create a pennant shape panel for your cards. Cut the patterned paper to the width and length you desire. Then, use another piece of patterned paper, or scrap cardstock, that has a 90 degree corner. Center the corner, trace the lines lightly with a pencil, and then cut. Doing this with the same piece of cardstock on the patterned paper, as well as the stamped piece, allowed them to layer perfectly.

Be sure and stop by the rest of the team to be inspired!

Paper Crafts Magazine: Stamp It! 3 Ways Blog Hop

PC20112

Welcome to the Stamp It! 3 Ways blog hop! This new special issue from Paper Crafts magazine is now available. Its stamping, all stamping!! What I love about this issue is how its set up. Three designers were given the same stamp set and they each created a card based on their own style. The creative ways each designer used the stamps is astounding! So much creativity! And so many ways to be inspired to use stamp sets in your stash.

charming

Today I am using one of the stamp sets I used in the issue, My Mind’s Eye Lost and Found Princess stamps.

charming CU

I stamped the pennants onto white cardstock with aqua ink. Then I added a piece of twine to the card base. Each of the pennants was cut out and foam mounted to the card. The butterfly was stamped with yellow ink, cut out and foam mounted. The sentiment fit perfectly between the embossed details.

The embossing on the background was created by Spellbinders Paper Arts latest; M-Bossabilities!! These dual-sided embossing folders are brilliant and create such a deep impression! This folder is called Elite. M-Bossabilities will be available for ordering at CHA-W. So look for them soon at your favorite store!!

Check out these talented stampers and see what they have created for today!

go with all your heart

go with all your heart

Finally getting to share a Spellbinders Paper Arts project with you! We create so many projects, all that are used in various ways. Once they show up in the fabulous Spellbinders idea gallery, we can share them on our blogs.

See the supply list below for all the wonderful die templates that I used. One tip I want to point out is the inking. Be sure and add some ink to your embossed (raised) edges to bring out the beautiful details!

Its been a wee bit crazy here. The little man got ill over the weekend, which changed our plans. Poor thing. I am testing students this week, and I leave for CHA on Friday. Oh, did I mention I teach class Tuesday night? What would we do if we didn’t have to be a thousand places at once? :) Hope your weekend was wonderful!

This week is going to be exciting on the old blog! Tomorrow is a CardMaker Magazine post, and Tuesday is my Spellbinders Blog Frenzy post day!! Lots of fun! thanks for stopping by!

happy heart day peek from Avocado Arts

happy valentines day

Today it’s a look at Sweet Treat Sweetie, the next release from Avocado Arts! Hard to believe its time to think about the next holiday! ;)

happy valentines day CU button

The background of this card was stamped several times in different colors of ink. (The stamp image itself has three rows of x’s and o’s.) To make it easy, I used a Clearsnap Colorbox Chalk Queue set of inks. They are five inks, stacked up, that all coordinate.

The extra touch to this card is the stamped button. Yep, I cannot get enough of those wood buttons. Perfect for making your own embellishments! This button was sanded first, then using Palette ink, I stamped the heart image. Tie some twine through the button and you are done. Lots of possibilities with that idea.

Hope you are enjoying your holidays! thanks for stopping by!

Be sure and stop by the rest of the team to be inspired!
