congrats

Simon Says Stamp just had another release of fabulous products! This release is called Pure Sunshine and it just that, bright, happy, fun, and bursting with spring and summer!

Today I am sharing a card made with Simon Says Stamp Clear Stamps Married and Simon Says Stamp Cake and Congrats Craft Dies. I love that you can purchase these separately or as a set!

I started by die cutting the cute scalloped rectangle from Fancy Pants Collecting Memories patterned paper. I also die cut the word congrats from the same paper. The size of the word is fantastic for cards and I know I will be using this one a lot!

I stamped the cake onto more patterned paper and then die cut it with the coordinating die. Being a huge cake decorating fan, this one has lots of possibilities! The final touch is a resin flower from Fancy Pants.

Happy Tuesday! I hope that you had a good weekend and a great start to your week! We enjoyed 82 degrees on Saturday and did not enjoy 37 degrees yesterday. Well okay then, spring. :) 

I am trying to bring the warmer temperatures back with my card today. I am using stamps and dies from the Mothers and Fathers release from Simon Says Stamp.

I started by die cutting Butterfly Drift from gold foiled cardstock. Look at how gorgeous the tiny outline is in gold! I set aside the inside butterflies to use at a later time.

I passed the die through my manual die cutting machine again, but this time with Smooth White cardstock. I watercolored each of the butterlies using watered-down MFT Dye Inks. For more on that technique, check out this: Watercolor Background Tutorial.

I finished the card off by adding a smaller gold butterfly and an enamel dot to the center of the largest and middle butterfly. The sentiment is just perfect, look at that font! Its from Summer Garden, a new stamp set. I stamped it with the new MFT Hybrid Black Licorice Ink. Hellooo new favorite black ink! More about that later this week as I will have a review of the inks, plus lots of ideas on how to use them!

Inking Through Stencils video tutorial

Welcome to day 2 of the stencil tutorials! Today is a very basic tutorial that is all about inking. Even though its basic, look at the cool way you can ink! I love this card and cannot wait to try more layering!

faux letterpress with embossing folders video tutorial

Here it is! The video tutorial on how to create a faux letterpress look using embossing folders. This technique creates a piece of cardstock with an elegant look. You could use it as is, or die cut or punch shapes from it.

Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! As I always seem to say, things have been busy. The little man started with a new teacher on Monday because their class sizes were so big. They added another teacher and split the students evenly. I am glad. He loves his new teacher. Whew. Cub Scouts and swimming started. I am now singing in the choir (and soon playing worship team) at church, and all the usual running around life throws our way. You know what? Life is good. :)

The look of negative space is so popular. I love it. Using Viola Sprouts, a die template from Simon Says Stamp, I die a piece of cardstock. (I set the flowers aside for another project.) 

Then I thought it would be fun to make a faux letter press pattern to place behind my open flowers. To create it, I simply inked up the raised edges of an embossing folder, placed cardstock inside the folder, and ran it through my manual die cutting machine. I adhered the faux letterpressed cardstock behind the open flowers with Crafty Foam Tape. The whole panel was attached to a card base.

And it looks like I need to film a video tutorial on this super fun technique! Soon. Its going on my list!

Holiday Cards and More Vol. 8

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I can’t help myself. Confession, I bought Christmas crafting supplies at Michael’s yesterday. It was a ton of fun looking at all the new ornaments and projects and ribbons…

Christmas is my favorite holiday and this special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine is one I look forward to every year. Holiday Cards and More Vol.8 is a great issue. And a great resource for your holiday cards and projects. I found quite a few fabulous projects that I could totally see myself recreating for our holiday card!

This issue is also special because I am on the cover! The truck and tree are mine. I have always been drawn to photos and décor pieces with an old fashioned truck getting the Christmas tree, so I thought, why not create that with paper? The truck and trees are all digital cut files from Silhouette. To make the truck a bit more festive, I added a stamped sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.

We are off to the Iowa State Fair this weekend. It will be a first visit for us. We will have to see how it compares to the Minnesota State Fair. ;)

Oh how the days of summer are slipping quickly away! I cannot believe that today is the first day in August! Soon my little man will be starting 2nd grade and I am hanging on to every last moment!

It has been so busy. We spent the weekend in the Twin Cities and shopped the Mall of America and visited the MN Zoo. Then it was off to my parents for fun and sun, blueberry picking, fishing, tubing, boat rides, and my mom’s cooking. Back to Iowa again for bike rides, golf, and school shopping. We all need a nap! But I would not trade a minute of it. Not one single minute.

Today’s card is a project that uses word dies. I adore word dies. So many possibilities! This one is from Simon Says Stamp. See the stripes behind the word? I used the other half of the pennant sticker. I was even proud of my ingenuity! Ha! The rest is the layering of stickers with 3D Foam Squares. The colors just make me want to smile, or maybe it’s the polka dots.
