Go-To-Gal Designer Challenge: Neat & Tangled

What is a Go-to Gal Designer Challenge you may ask? Once a month the Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine Go-to Gals will challenge each other to create a project focusing on products from a particular manufacturer. We plan to feature one manufacturer the last Wednesday of each month. Just for fun! This month we are featuring the stamp company Neat & Tangled!

Neat & Tangled has some really great stamps! Such a cool mix of trend and whimsy, yet timeless images!

On my card today, I used the set, Sailmates. The waves got me thinking, well those and some new hybrid inks.

By layering tags die cut from two different mediums, I was able to create a pretty cool look to this card!

I started with a tag of cardstock. I stamped the sailboat and sentiment images in hybrid ink, ink that will stand up to water. Reason being, I was going to make a watercolor background. I created blue watercolor with re-inkers. To see how to do that, check here...creating watercolor with re-inkers.

On the acetate that I die cut, I stamped the waves with a darker hybrid ink, made for unique surfaces.

I just love the way the layers turned out! So simple and so fun!

This hop has been planned for a while. And with the news last week, I don't know if we will continue or not. I hope we can. Thanks for always following along with our fun little hops! We love the sweet comments and hearing about what inspires you! Stop over and see what the rest of the ladies have in store:
thanks for stopping by!

the Go-To-Gals say a fond farewell

This may be my 17th, or maybe 18th, attempt at writing this post. I have so much to say and words are failing me now. This won't be eloquent, but rambling, because of all the feelings I have surrounding the news from last week. As of the February 2015 issue, Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine will no longer exist. I am brokenhearted for so many reasons. First, it is so sad to lose such a wonderful publication. Second, my friends, the editors, are all losing their jobs. And finally, us Go-To-Gals are losing our gig as well.

I remember picking up my first copy of Paper Crafts Magazine at my local stamping store, the very first issue, in fact. It was like a light shone from heaven and the angels started singing. THIS was what I was looking for. THESE were the projects and cards that I wanted to create. This magazine got ME! Every issue was scoured front to back, back to front, and sideways. I read every inch. Noted every product. Marked each issue. Each issue was more inspiring than the last! I remember secretly dreaming, even before I had ever submitted a project, of somehow becoming a Go-To-Gal, or a Pro, as they were called back then.

My first publications with Paper Crafts Magazine. Three cards in this special issue.

Fast forward to a girl following through on her dream of one day being a part of the magazine. I submitted for the very first time. Three cards. To the Stamp It 2009 special issue. All three cards were picked up! The excitement, the joy, the beginning. I continued to submit. Pub calls were right up my alley. They fed my creativity.
Every magazine and book I have been published in from Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine.

After emailing and working with the editors, I finally had the chance to meet them in real life. In real life! They knew me. I talked to them! And they were amazing! Kind and supportive cheerleaders who soon enough would become friends. Jennifer, Kerri, Susan, PKelly, Holly, Stacy, and Cath. Women who amaze me with their creativity and business savvy. I have so much more to say to each of them, I just cannot put it into words yet.

And then I became a Go-To-Gal/Contributing Editor. A real, honest-to-goodness dream come true. I have been living out my dream. Who gets to do that? I am so fortunate.

But what is even better? Being a part of this amazing group of women. Yes, they blow me away consistently with their creativity, but they are so much more than that. They are my friends. My personal go-to-gals. I hold them in the highest esteem. They are so dear to my heart. And that is the best thing that came out of this adventure I have been given the privilege of---friends.

Each of us is sharing today, in our own way, but that's the coolest part of our team of Go-To-Gals, we all bring something unique:
Laura Williams
Laina Lamb (she's on a family vacation)

So thank YOU fellow Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine friends! Thank you for all the fun and support! and thanks for always stopping by!

P.S. I am still sorting this all out. Creating a project, well, my heart hasn't been in it the last few days. I will be back soon with a project or two, and much more to share and say in another post.

Go-To-Gal October Designer Challenge

I am up on the Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine blog today with a fun project! Head on over and check it out! Its also the last Wednesday of the month and that means another Go-To-Gal Challenge! Keep scrolling for that!

This month we are featuring the stamp company Stampin' Up!

I wanted to make a holiday card, but didn't have any holiday images on hand. Bring on the stars! I stamped the stars onto cardstock and then punched them out.

Then I got to thinking about hanging them on a branch. I happened to have some thin garland, so I trimmed it to size. I tied twine through the stars and hung them from the branch. Then adhered the branch to the card with glue. Before adhering the branch, I stamped my cardstock with Dotty Angles, several times. I love how it looks like falling snow!

WCMD Double Faux Letterpress Video Tutorial + MFT Sneak Peek

Welcome back for my second post of the day! I hope you are having fun on World Card Making Day already!

The idea behind today is kicking off the holiday card making season, so with that in mind, I have some pretty great techniques and ideas for creating mail-able cards. I love creating layers on my cards, but that just doesn't work well when I need to mail them. Its fine for an occasional birthday card, but to mail in bulk? Nope. Be sure and take a look at all the ideas I am sharing today; beautiful cards with great techniques that make them look layered and elegant.

With that idea in mind, here is a video tutorial about a technique I happened upon the other night. I wanted to create a beautiful cardstock panel. One that would have depth and color and stand alone on a card. I started by simply Faux Letterpressing with an embossing folder, but I decided to take it one step further.
Take a look.

As today progresses, I will be sharing these Mail-able Card tips, in green, below. Keep an eye out on all my posts, and I hope they inspire you as you start creating your holiday cards!

Mail-able Card Idea #1:
Create a beautiful panel of cardstock to use as a focal point.

Mail-able Card Idea #2:
Trim your cardstock panel and insert the sentiment, instead of layering it on top.

Here is another card using the Double Faux Letterpress technique.

Mail-able Card Idea #3:
Use a piece of cardstock or patterned paper to die cut or punch a focal image.

Mail-able Card Idea #4:
Instead of creating another layer with a die cut shape, emboss-only with your die template.

SNEAK PEEK ALERT!
Shhhhhh! I got permission to share a little bit of the October release from My Favorite Things early! This set of dies is going to be the Free with $60 purchase set this month! Die-namics Christmas Tree Cut-Out makes this fantastic tree! I thought it would be great to use the Double Faux Letterpress background panel to create a focal image.

And be sure and head over to the MFT Blog because there are amazing prizes to be won!

On my blog later today, I will be focusing on holiday themed cards, with an emphasis on cards that are easy to mail. I have a cool technique and lots of tips to share. But...you can't talk about holiday cards and not have someplace to display all the beautiful cards that arrive in the mail!

This card holder was created with the latest in products from Jillibean Soup. Mix the Media is a line of gorgeous products for creating projects for your home. Large Metal Hanger struck me as a great way to be able to display your cards!

I used a new line called, Holly Berry Borscht to decorate the hanger. The pre-cut Pea Pod parts made it easy!

The side "ribbons" and hanging strips were created with one other product that I love, Kraft Tape Dots. I took the backing off the tape to create the "ribbons" down the side, but left the backing in place for the hanging strips.

On the center clip, I placed a small card, which makes this a perfect decoration to hang up until the happy mail starts to arrive!

The prize:
Here is the start of today's prize. If you have gotten a prize from me before, you know that I keep adding product to the box until it is absolutely FULL!
