Moxie Fab World

You know there will be great challenges, inspiration, prizes, and I heard about some cool freebies!

On my blog later today, I will be focusing on holiday themed cards, with an emphasis on cards that are easy to mail. I have a cool technique and lots of tips to share. But...you can't talk about holiday cards and not have someplace to display all the beautiful cards that arrive in the mail!

This card holder was created with the latest in products from Jillibean Soup. Mix the Media is a line of gorgeous products for creating projects for your home. Large Metal Hanger struck me as a great way to be able to display your cards!

I used a new line called, Holly Berry Borscht to decorate the hanger. The pre-cut Pea Pod parts made it easy!

The side "ribbons" and hanging strips were created with one other product that I love, Kraft Tape Dots. I took the backing off the tape to create the "ribbons" down the side, but left the backing in place for the hanging strips.

On the center clip, I placed a small card, which makes this a perfect decoration to hang up until the happy mail starts to arrive!

Happy Hexagons and happenings

Long time, no chat! Well my friends, life has been full. Happy and full. My sister, her husband, and my nephew have all been here for the past week. Is there anything better than being an auntie?! At 20 months old, my nephew is a ton of fun and I am so glad we got to spend time with all of them! Swimming is still keeping us on the go too. The little man qualified for the state meet, so now he is practicing with the "big kids." He loves every minute of it, all 90 of them. Its truly amazing to watch him in the water!

On Moxie Fab World there is a new challenge, Happy Hexagons. I have been saving this card for a special occasion, and this seems to be the perfect one! I used a line from Heidi Swapp called Hello Today. Its available at Michael's. I love the color palette! If you want to play along with the challenge, stop on over and visit the blog and link up your project!

-I was asked to interview for a podcast at Scrap Owl. I talk trends, publishing, and what inspires me. Head on over to have a listen. The site is a fantastic resource!

Moxie Fab Thanks! blog hop

Today is all about Cath Edvalson and her Moxie Fab World. Well, now it is time for Cath to move on and have her next adventure in life. This hop today is to show her just how much she has meant to us all personally and what she has meant to the industry! Its a massive hop. But I think that shows just how amazing she is!

Cath was my first Paper Crafts cheerleader. She was kind and encouraging, and frankly, the first time I met her, I couldn't believe that she knew my work! Cath is truly a lovely person. She is passionate and thoughtful and intelligent. I honestly could go on and on about her, never saying enough. Moxie Fab is just not going to be the same without her because she is the epitome of Moxie Fab.

Cath, this card is for you. Technique-y, as always. :)

To create this card, I die cut post-it notes with butterfly die templates. Then I placed them on a white cardstock panel. I stamped over the entire panel with Interlocking Borders from Lawn Fawn. Once I removed the post-it notes, I was left with cool butterflies! I added enamel dots (shocking, right?) to the centers and a sentiment.

Happy New Year! I hope that your year is off to a wonderful start! It seemed like it would be fun to share some of my favorite projects from the past year. Today cards, then altered items, and scrap pages. Its fun to look back and remember all the projects and ideas and work! If the link is worth visiting, I added it underneath the card. Its great to be back home after visiting both sets of families in MN last week. We had a great time celebrating Christmas and eating way too much good food! Snow tubing and ice fishing, board game playing, and movie watching also rounded out our time together. Its tough to get back into the groove of things! CHA is approaching quickly, which means tons of artwork to complete. The Spellbinders Abilities and Beyond Blog Frenzy is also on its way…oooh fun stuff to share! It means that the old blog here will be a bit neglected again, but I am learning to say no, even to posting. :)

gratitude day 8

Today’s gratitude: PBS and no commercials. We watched another network for one show and the advertisements were obnoxious. And they made the little man that way too. He wanted everything that flashed on the screen. So today, I am thankful for quality television shows that don’t have toy advertisements.

On a side note, we did start Christmas shopping for the little man and I am thankful for my creative hubby who cleverly hid our covert shopping purchases. :) It was fun! Up until now, the little man hasn’t really paid attention, or noticed. But this year he is getting wise to the games. Isn’t this what parenting is all about?!?! :)

Moxie Fab World had a great challenge called, Diggin’ on Damask. I love damask images. Love. Love. Love. Almost as much as I love kraft cardstock. Yep, its that much. :)

I started this card by stamping the damask image in black ink onto wood paper. Love the contrast of the rustic wood and elegant damask. Then I sprayed over the entire piece with Glimmer Mist. It made the ink bleed a bit. But, I thought it looked like old fabric, soft and worn. The wood grain also still stands out.

The card has been sitting and waiting and waiting to be finished. I just couldn’t cover up the unique background with ribbon or lace, or another shape. Then I saw this rub on in my stash. Perfect. This totally reminds me of the Coca Cola commercials at Christmas time. Makes you smile and wish that polar bears really were cuddly! :) At least these ones are!

Here is an image that essentially is white, so to add depth, I added shadows with a natural grey, W3.

Cute moose. Cute coat on the moose. Loving the plaid background image in this set!! You would never know it, but it doesn’t line up perfectly. And it still works. Brilliant.

just because…

A box of Hero Arts goodness arrived at my house yesterday and of course, I had to dive in and get inky!

Love the look of Copic markers on kraft cardstock! This image is much taller, but I stamped it onto a piece of cardstock laying on my desk. Doing that drove the entire design of the card. I need to do that more often, instead of starting with the standard card base. :)

I meant to get this posted and scheduled for this morning, but we spent the evening in the ER. Our little man needed stitches in his eyebrow. He was playing at the pool with daddy and somehow bumped his head on the play set. 6 stitches later…he was amazing through the whole ordeal. And I am grateful for a strong husband who stayed with him through it all, even when I couldn’t. The little man is resting today with a bruised and swollen shut eye. He should be able to have the stitches out in 5 days. The poor thing, I would give him anything he asked for. I even offered cookie salad for breakfast, but he thought cinnamon toast sounded better. Yes, he is quite the little man.

Paper Crafts Magazine Presents: A Card Style Mystery Blog Hop

The latest special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine, Card Style, is now available. Like I said before, this issue is amazing! The concept is; each section of the magazine has cards in a particular style. Cards which are brilliantly designed and spot-on in their genre. After reading through the issue the other night, I am totally inspired and very proud to be a part of this issue (not to mention being on the cover!! eeee! :))

Because each project had to be exactly in each style, it was a challenge to create projects! A good challenge though, because it made me think about each and every element I placed on a card. I guess that made it easy to edit what I could and couldn't use. :)

Here is my project to share with you today. My style (at least for today :)) is Classy and Elegant. I definitely gravitate towards this style-classy colors with timeless design elements. Think Pottery Barn and Martha Stewart.

The card started out with wood paper for the background. LOVE that! Then I die cut a pendant shape from black cardstock and placed it along the left hand side. I trimmed the excess away. Then I proceeded to use several left-over smaller accent pieces that came from the original cut, so I could create a damask-looking image. Black pearls were added to places they just seemed to fit perfectly. To keep the classy look, the sentiment was stamped in black ink.

Wood, pearls, black, scripted font, damask. Absolutely timeless elements. Each one staying within its style.

the day of magazines

Before I start my post, I have to send a huge-normous thank you to each and every one of you who emailed me about our big move! Your prayers and encouragement mean so much to me! I am lucky to have such wonderful readers and friends!! I am home from CHA and recovering! LOL! I will share a post soon with photos and my favs, so stay tuned!

The Woman Today is a local interest magazine here in the Duluth, MN area. Its a beautiful magazine, with talented and interesting people. Its such a good read that even my hubby wants to take a look. A couple of months ago, they called me! Can you believe it? They wrote an article about me and a little bit of what I do in the paper crafting world. I am SO honored!!
