Texture for Cards

Texture for Cards is my latest class at Big Picture Classes!

Take your cards from drab to fab! Kimberly Crawford is here to show you some simple ways to add texture and style to your cards and other paper-crafting projects. She shares fun techniques using different materials—like vellum, felt, stencils, and more—to add interest to an otherwise “flat” design. You’ll learn just how quick and easy it is to transform an ordinary project into an extraordinary one!

What you will learn:
  • Add unique texture to a background with various stamps techniques
  • Use embossing folders and stencils to emboss on various types of paper
  • Create a faux letterpress look
  • Heat emboss on vellum
  • Create a stained-glass effect on vellum
  • Die cut acetate, felt, cork, and wood veneer sheets
  • Add color to acetate and wood veneer pieces

That list is just a sampling of all the techniques and ideas I share with you in this new class! I had an absolute blast creating projects for this class! I cannot wait for you to join me at Big Picture Classes!

MFT Stamps Warm & Fuzzy Card Kit now available!

The wait is over! The MFT Stamps Warm & Fuzzy Friends Card Kit is now available for purchase in the MFT Stamps online store! This packed kit is an amazing value, as well as being adorable!

Could this hedgie be any cuter? I don't think so! I colored him with color pencil, along with the sign and the trees. One feature I love about the kit is the way that the smaller sentiments in the
Warm & Fuzzy Friends stamp set, fit on the sign! Clever!

I die cut the wood veneer paper with Die-namics Stitched Circle Scallop Frames. It layered perfectly onto a piece of patterned paper from the kit pack, Trail Mix. The other layers on the card base are also from the paper pack. This kit will make you smile, that is for sure!

Visit the MFT Stamps blog for all the details, including a complete list of the supplies included in the kit, links to the rest of the fantastic design team, and there is usually a chance to win!

MFT Stamps March Kit: Warm & Fuzzy Friends + Video Tutorial

Its time to start the peeks at the March kit from MFT Stamps called Warm & Fuzzy Friends! This kit is packed, and I mean packed, with fantastic card making supplies! Exclusive stamps and dies and patterned paper pack, along with inks, cardstock, watercolor paper, and watercolors! For a complete list of the goodness in the kit, head to the MFT Stamps blog!

To start off, I have a video for you for today's episode of MFTv. Check out how to use the Peerless Watercolors included in the kit to watercolor your images. I also show some other great supplies in the kit that I haven't even mentioned yet!

For my second card today, I am sharing this cute fox toasting a marshmallow. On this card, I used everything in the kit, other than color pencils.

Included in the kit are two Hybrid ink cubes. These inks are perfect for this kit as they will allow you to color all the adorable animals in the stamp set with ANY coloring medium you have! Perfect!

Ok, I had to spill the beans on the cool supply in the kit. There is wood veneer paper in the kit!! And its adhesive backed! You can die cut, emboss, heat emboss, ink, and stamp on the wood veneer paper! I trimmed away a small piece, and using the Hybrid ink, stamped the sentiment on the wood! Fantastic touch!

The entire team is sharing projects with the kit, so head to the MFT Stamps Blog for links, and for answers to any questions you have about this kit!

copper thanks; Ellen Hutson Pin-Sights Challenge

I am thrilled to be joining the Ellen Hutson Pin-Sights Challenge this month! Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights challenge is a monthly inspirational challenge based on a Pinterest Inspired photo that is located on the CLASSroom blog.

The best part about this challenge is, you get to play along! A random challenge participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson store. To be eligible, you must must use Essentials by Ellen products and you must use the photo badge as inspiration.

The colors of the challenge photo (above) totally inspired me to get creating! I made a huge list of everything I noticed in the photos, from colors to texture, to even design! Its amazing how much a photo can get your creativity flowing!

To create the background, I trimmed a piece of cherry wood veneer paper. I added two colors of Distress Stains in blues directly to the paper. Two coats seemed to cover better. In a couple of places, I even left a puddle of the stain for more depth.

The flowers are Essentials by Ellen Wild Garden Designer Dies, designed by the fantastic Julie Ebersole! They are so pretty! I cut them from MFT Stamps Tropical Teal card stock and also Sweet Tooth card stock. Watermark ink was applied to the white images and then covered in copper embossing powder. Each image was heat embossed twice to add more coverage. The flowers and leaves were arranged around a copper heat embossed sentiment. Fancy Thanks is a set of stamps from Essentials by Ellen and Julie Ebersole also! A few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh finished off my card. For a direct link to all the supplies used, please use the list at the bottom of this post.

I hope that you are as inspired as I was! To enter this challenge, visit the CLASSroom blog and enter your project using the InLinkz link up at the end of the post. You have until December 1 to enter! Cannot wait to see how you are inspired!
