The Heart of a Card - new class from Big Picture Classes

As card makers, you pour love, creativity, and time into the design of your heartfelt cards. But do you carry that sentiment into the inside of your cards? Kimberly Crawford explores making the heart of the card–the inside–just as powerful and inspiring as the outside. Learn unique techniques such as pop-ups, shaker cards, acetate cards, and more. These unique cards will be sure to bring a smile to your recipient's face.

I am thrilled to announce my latest class at Big Picture Classes called, The Heart of a Card! This class was a ton of fun to put together and I know you will have a blast learning about all the fun ways to take the beauty of the front of your card to the inside!

From stamping to die cutting to unique products all that make the inside of a card special, take this class, starting today! The lessons each include a video tutorial, photos, tips, and tons of ideas! The best part about these classes is that students can share their work. I truly mean that is the best part! There is nothing better than seeing what each person's creative mind designs! Plus, when you share, you inspire others! How I love that!

Its hard to believe this is my 7th class at Big Picture Classes! When you enroll, you can take as many classes as you choose. Each month. Every class can be taken at your own pace. I enjoy sitting down and working through the class as I watch. Simply pause the video and experiment. Classes include card making, scrapbooking, photography, crafts, kids crafting, and so, so much more! See you there!

Happy hoppin’!

I am SO excited to be sharing some of the beautiful new Essentials by Ellen products being released for the holiday season! Its been tough waiting to share these cards for over two weeks!

First up is Fat Pants designed by the fabulous Julie Ebersole. Fat Pants stamp set also has a set of coordinating dies! Which, was fantastic news, as the inspiration for my card needed those dies! When I saw Fat Pants, I immediately thought of Christmas cards from the 40's and 50's. Check out how I made this card fill my vision.

Knowing that the Fat Pants Designer Dies cut slightly larger than the stamped image, I knew I could make a cool background by masking! I cut the ornament images from Masking Paper. Then I placed them on my card stock base. Candied Apple Distress Marker was colored on an acrylic block and I used a water brush to pick up the color and start creating a completely washed background. I love how the Candied Apple turns pink when watered down! Oh, and the masks won't work perfectly, but I love the vintage shabby look it created.

After removing the masks, I stamped the ornaments inside the white openings, going with a color palette straight from the 40's. The images obviously fit perfectly. I will be using this idea often!

Once the background dried, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with black powder. I added stamped stars in the background with black ink. Marker lines were drawn from the ornament tops to the top of the card. And I finished things off with a few clear sequins.

For my second card, I used Designer Dies Bird Shapes, once again by Julie Ebersole. There are two bird shapes in this set of dies, and I chose to use the larger of the two. I love the look of a dove. When I saw the stamp set, Season to Sparkle, I knew they would be perfect together!

I die cut the bird twice, once from white card stock and once from gold paper. I layered them together, slightly off center. On the white bird, I stamped a small snowflake from Season to Sparkle.

On the card stock base, a larger snowflake, also from Season to Sparkle was stamped repeatedly, to tie in with the snowflake on the bird. The sentiment was stamped and embossed with gold powder. A beautiful Christmas card for sure. One that would be easy to mass produce!

Time to head to Julie Ebersole's blog, but don't forget the giveaway!!

Essentials by Ellen Winter 2016 Release Hop + giveaway

Hello, and welcome to the Essentials by Ellen Winter 2016 Hop! I’ll be showcasing several of the new stamp sets and dies on my post today!

Welcome, welcome! I think my first card says it all! Totally Fabulous describes the beautiful products being released from Ellen Hutson!

Totally Fabulous is a set of two dies. One die in the set is the scripted word fabulous. I cut the word from wood paper. Then I added adhesive to the bottom of the word. Gold foil was pushed into the adhesive with the help of a bone folder. Gold dipped letters! Gorgeous!

The other word in the set is the word totally. Totally is a pop-up word. You can see by looking at this close up, how the word can be bent forward on the card. Such a cool idea and wonderful dimension to be added to a project! I trimmed a piece of gold card stock and added a notched end. Then I cut the word totally from it, keeping the die in place with a piece of low-tack tape.

The words were placed on a background created with another new die from the release, Bed of Roses. I cut the image from vellum, to allow it to be more see-through and soft. Bed of Roses cuts a panel of detailed flowers the size of an A2 card. The white card stock base has been inked around the edges with Abandoned Coral Distress Ink. To adhere my vellum to my inked card base, I used a glue that I knew would dry clear.

The finishing touch was a few clear and gold sequins. Sequins are always the perfect finishing touch!

I am pretty sure that the two circle and heart images making up the background of my card are intended to be separate images. But when I saw them laid out on the packaging of Oh, Frappe!, I just HAD to use them as-is to create my own patterned paper!

I stamped the images with brown first. Then using Distress Markers, I water colored the images. I stayed with all browns to keep the look of coffee. I love the neutral, monotone look of this card!

The sentiment from Oh, Frappe! was stamped and heat embossed with white powder. The white was too much of a contrast, so I colored over the white lightly with a Distress Marker. The coffee cup was stamped and then die cut. It too is water colored. Yes! There are coordinating dies to the images! Oh,  Frappe has stamps AND dies!

Again, sequins add the final touch of brown for this coffee-themed card! Anyone want to come over for a cup of coffee now?!

You should have arrived here from the completely amazing Kittie Caracciolo and her blog. She knows how to make a show stopping card!
