festive 4th banner

festive 4th banner by Kimberly Crawford

Just wanted to share a little project I have been working on for our house. Now that I have this new chalkboard, I wanted to have little decorations to add to it for the different seasons and holidays. I thought this little banner would be so cute on it! (now I need to get a 4th of July sentiment on the chalkboard!!)

For the pennants, I die cut canvas with Spellbinders Nested Pennants. Then each pennant was painted with Martha Stewart Wild Blueberry craft paint. (love that stuff, it covers all surfaces)

To create the stars, I created a stencil. Using thick card stock, I die cut the same pennant shape I used on the canvas. Then I punched out stars. It fit perfectly each time and all the stars lined up exactly the way I wanted.

Holes were punched in each top corner with a CropODile and it was strung onto twine.

The lanterns are a cute dollar bin find at Michael’s (while filming in Denver, Susan Opel and I HAD to make a Michael’s run. LOL). Using Martha Stewart (Wedding White) craft paint again, I painted every other inset. Keep in mind, these don’t match up in the back because it is actually a spiral, but who will ever see the back? ;)

The lanterns are hung from the main piece of twine with twine tied into a bow. I like how easy it is to remove the pennants or lanterns, or to add or change the length of this banner for whatever space I choose to hang it. Simple and cute. That makes me happy.

getting crafty

ceramic cake stands

Its been a bit nutty around here. Which seems to always be the case. :) The crafty projects have been flowing out of my office, but most of them can’t be shared. So, today I thought I would show you a couple projects that I have been working on.

The first are these cake stands! I have a thing for cake stands. An obsession passion. And I would have many more in my possession, if I could find a great place to display them all. Thinking on that one…

I picked these ones up at Michael’s. They are raw ceramic and about 7” in diameter and about 4” tall. I could  not refuse. Both got several coats of white paint. The one on the left got a chalkboard top. The one on the right had the edges finished to look aged, or that Pottery Barn look. Its easy to achieve, just lighten brown paint with white and apply to the edges. As it is wet, remove some of the paint with a slightly damp paper towel. Add or take away as much paint as you desire.

bakers twine on clothespins

My baker’s twine  collection was getting a wee bit out of control. Off to Pinterest I went, browsing and saw someone wrap theirs around clothespins. Perfect. The end of the twine gets clipped into the pin to stay in place. My office has ribbon in candy jars and this one was just waiting for the twine, it appears. Yay! An I saw it, I pinned it, I did it!

Tomorrow I will be back with a card, I promise. thanks for stopping by!

hello

Kimberly Crawford hello Heidi Swapp Color Shine
The other day I innocently picked up some new Heidi Swapp Color Shine from Michael’s. I must confess that I.cannot.stop.misting.everything.

The three colors I picked up were Sweet Cherry, Mustard, and Mint Green.

Along with the Color Shine, I picked up some of the Specialty cardstock. Its 12x12 paper that has the resist part already in the design, as you can see. Simply mist the colors on the paper and gently wipe it away with a paper towel.
I apologize now for the many, many cards coming with these mists. :)

Top 10 Favorites from 2012

Happy New Year!

Well. This year didn’t quite go as planned. There have been more downs than ups, but through patience and prayer, we are making it day by day. And each day seems to have better and better moments. I can honestly say that we are looking forward to 2013 and all the adventures we have planned!

I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of my favorite projects from the year. Honestly, it was easy pickings, without much creating happening this year! :)

Merry Christmas!

Kimberly Crawford Believe Snow Globe

Merry Christmas!

Kimberly Crawford Believe Snow Globe v2

Kimberly Crawford Believe Snow Globe v3

And the REAL reason for the season:
The Birth of Jesus from Luke Chapter 2

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

May you know our Lord and Savior and celebrate what He has done for us all!

believe, again

TT Believe Tree

Hi there! I am using the same stamp set as the other day, Believe by Ali Edwards for Technique Tuesday. The background was stamped with the star image in watermark ink. The tree was stamped onto a separate piece of cardstock, trimmed out, and then foam mounted to the base. And the burlap (swoon, RED burlap!) was stamped with the believe sentiment. I used white paint that was brushed onto the stamp. I am really loving the look. And I have ideas for more décor …

The burlap is from Michael’s in the Christmas section. Check out the holiday section for lots of great ribbons and trims!

Be sure and ask your local retailer for them. Its an easy way to support Breast Cancer because we have all been impacted by this disease in one way or another. Here is to finding a cure!
