just saying hello

Just Saying Hello Chalkboard

I had a few new products sitting on my desk, Chalkstock and Fabric Tape. Kate jokingly challenged me to use them both on a card, and I thought, hey, why not take her up on the challenge? :) LOVE the results. I was inspired by all the chalkboard items I have been seeing in decorating catalogs, like Pottery Barn. They tuck a chalkboard with a menu onto a wood table with flowers. Casual, and the visual contrast is interesting to me.

I stamped the flowers and the sentiment onto the Chalkstock with Versamagic Cloud White ink. The way the cardstock takes ink is fabulous, its really impressive. It does take a few minutes to dry.

Before adhering the Chalkstock to the card, I applied a strip of the Fabric Tape just above and below where the paper would land. If you haven’t used the Fabric Tape before, you will enjoy how easy it is to use. The tape is paper backed, so you can play around with placement, before committing.

have a wonderful day! thanks for stopping by!

joy

Sorry! This project has been removed for publication. It will be in the December 2010 issue of ScrapStreet magazine.

I just had to make another one of these gift bags from the Paper Crafts 12 Designers of Christmas blog hop! It was so easy and SO much fun to decorate! If you want to download your own directions, click HERE.

I also wanted to play along with one of Hero Arts’ monthly challenges/contests. This month it is Everything Autumn and part of that includes simple gift bags. The Flickr group, where you load your projects, is full of not only talented stampers, but really nice people. I encourage you to check it out! Lots of prizes, challenges and fun! Onto the bag!

I started by creating the gift bag, using cardstock. Then stamped Music Background on each side, with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Snowflakes were stamped over that with Peeled Paint and the snowflake image from Get Merry. Each side was inked with Frayed Burlap distressing ink.

Continuing with the same ink colors, I die cut/embossed a Classic Circle Large from Spellbinders and stamped the snowflake and the word joy. A tree was stamped onto cardstock, cut out, and foam mounted.

I did the same thing with the trees along the bottom, except I added gems to the top of each tree. I love doing that. :) You can see that the trees are very splotchy in appearance, and its for two reasons, one the image is a little distressed. And two, the distressing inks do that. Its awesome. And perfect for this project.

thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies: Stamps-Hero Arts (CG222 Music Background, CL463 Get Merry!), Gems-Hero Arts (CH159 Red), Inks-Ranger Distressing Inks (Peeled Paint, Frayed Burlap, Tsukineko Memento (Tuxedo Black), Spellbinders-Classic Circle Large (die# 3), Ribbon-American Crafts

Mint Monday

Its been quite sometime since we have had a Mint Monday! I am happy to say that life has once again returned to normal, we are settled, and I am ready to get back into the groove of things! :)

If you have made a project using Mint Motif stamps, be sure to email me at Kimberly1Crawford@gmail.com. I would LOVE to share your project and a link to your blog or gallery!

Mint Motif Logo

AND, in case you missed it, don’t forget the design team call we have going for Mint Motif! The deadline is THIS FRIDAY! There is lots of details HERE.

Please email your applications with all this information to
dt@iheartpapers.com. Deadline to apply is October 1, midnight EST.

Thank You For Being So Sweet MM OA

I made a small flower, using the leaf image from Mint Motif’s school basics. Well, I made two. And I wanted to use the other one. (The first one is HERE) So, I grabbed more of the October Afternoon Seaside papers that the flower was made from and made another card.

The cork was stamped with a sentiment from MM’s Very Square Sentiments and it was die cut with a Spellbinders Classic Square. The thin cork from Creative Impressions is very easy to cut with your dies. I am sure that my love of all things kraft and twine also includes cork. :) And yes, Angela, I have an addiction! :)

The October releases will be peeking in just a little bit! (the 11th)! Oh, I cannot wait for you to see these images!! thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Stamps-Mint Motif (Very Square Sentiments, School Basics), Patterned paper-October Afternoon (Seaside 8x8) Making Memories (Ledger), Cork (Creative Impressions), Twine (May Arts), Spellbinders (Labels One, Classic Squares Small)

first day of preschool

First day of Pre School

I scrapbooked. Can you believe it?! :) The need to scrapbook has been overwhelming lately and I took advantage of some spare time. Oh, it felt so good! (Biased mommy alert!-->) And with my handsome little man as the subject, well, you can’t go wrong.

First day of Pre School CU banners and title

To start of with---I used the new Grand Nestabilities die templates from Spellbinders on this layout!! I used LF-127 Grand Scalloped Squares and LF-126 Grand Squares to make a frame from patterned paper. Needing to add a little something, I cut the frame and put part in the upper left and a smaller part in the lower right. If you want to learn how to make a frame using Nestabilities, you can see a video tutorial HERE. The Grand Nestabilities are wonderful! They pick up where the large sets of standard Nestabilities leave off. Love. Love. Love!

Then I used the newest papers from Bella Bvld, called, Midterm. I fell in love with them at CHA. So bright and funky! The banners are pre-made and on the back of Pep Rally. Buy two of this one, because you will want to use both sides! :)

Because the background seemed pretty plain, I stamped the handwriting line from Mint Motif’s School Basics stamp set. Using watermark ink, it added just right touch.

First day of Pre School CU post it and background

And the place this layout started, the post it notes. :) I die cut the yellow legal pad patterned paper with a Spellbinders Classic Square Large (die #3). The “tape” used to attach them to the layout was pieces of extra letter stickers I tore with my hands.

As for the journaling on this note, we told him he needed to wear a smile, bring his special school bag, he got to wear his brand new Spiderman shoes (cannot express how big of a deal this was, they light up! :)), and the first day of school was red day. Oh my goodness, when did he get so big?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Patterned paper-Bella Bvld Mid Term (Physics, Borders N Blocks, Pep Rally, Text Me), Stamps-Mint Motif (School Basics), Ink-Versamark (Watermark), Letter stickers-American Crafts (Runway Simply Chic White) Tiny Type Red (Cosmo Cricket), Spellbinders-Classic Squares Large, Grand Scalloped Squares, Grand Squares (not yet available)

for you

For You JustRite

The look of lace, doilies, and circles are everywhere. When I saw the JustRite Stampers set, Kaleidoscope Borders, I HAD to have them. I guess you can say I didn’t use these stamps in the traditional way, but I love the results! Using different colors of ink, I randomly stamped the image onto cardstock. The edges of the cardstock were inked with Distressing Ink to add a shabby look. The sentiment is from Victorian Nested Frames, and was stamped in black ink.

Have a marvelous day and thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Stamps-JustRite Stampers (Kaleidoscope Borders, Victorian Nested Frames), Ink-Memento (Tuxedo Black) Ranger (Distressing Ink-Frayed Burlap) Colorbox Chalk-Blackberry, Deep Lagoon, Butterscotch, Pumpkin Pie Spice Berrylicious), Gems-Hero Arts (Clear Mixed Gemstones)

Its the most wonderful time of the year!! Oh, how I love Christmas and the latest special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine, Holiday Cards & More Vol. 5 has put me in the spirit!! The issue is available now and you can pick yours up HERE.

I am thrilled to have quite a few cards in this issue. Every project in this issue is amazing and I am quite honored to be in it! Making Christmas projects always brings back such wonderful memories for me. My family has traditions that go back to when my dad was born. Its truly amazing to see all my cousin’s children, along with my little man, participating in those same traditions. A big part of those memories include music. And singing my lungs out to Christmas music in July, while working on this call, definitely inspires me. :)

PC HCM Blog Hop Gift Bag

For today, we were all given directions to use to create a unique project, especially for this hop. You can download the directions for the bag I used today, HERE. You can see the original project in the issue: Holiday Plaid Gift Bag (p. 104) by Becky Olsen. This is a cute and easy to make bag. Its just perfect for a sleeve of golf balls, which in my family is very handy for the holidays! :)

PC HCM Blog Hop Gift Bag CU Tag

The tag on the front was made with Spellbinders Heirloom Ornament 2010 and a stamp from Hero Arts, from the clear set, Get Merry.

Here is the fun and best part of today! Checking out what everyone else has created! Look at this list of designers! Wow! Make sure and visit each blog and leave a comment, because you will have 12 chances to win an amazing prize, and if you leave a comment at Paper Crafts Connection, where you can see the prize package and the original projects that inspired this hop, you will have 13 chances! Now, for the project that YOU can BID upon!

Skipping Stones B4B Bounce Gratitude

For this project, I used Garden Kiss and Healing Wings stamp sets from Skipping Stones Designs.

Skipping Stones B4B Bounce Gratitude CU Inking Edges

I started by layering 7gypsies masking tape on a piece of kraft cardstock. The edges were inked with distressing ink. The edges of the chipboard were inked the same way.

Skipping Stones B4B Gratitude CU Butterfly

The butterfly was stamped with distress ink onto white cardstock. I cut it out and let it dry for a few minutes. Once it was dry, I stamped the circles image from Garden Kiss with the same color ink.

I also inked a strip of cardstock and added stamped circles, in the same color ink, to the lower part of the card. The circle image is from Garden Kiss.

Skipping Stones B4B Bounce Gratitude CU Sent

For the sentiment panel, I inked with more distressing ink. Using the same color, I stamped the text image from Garden Kiss. Then the sentiment from Healing Wings was stamped with black ink.

Skipping Stones B4B Bounce Gratitude CU Inside

Here is the view of the inside of the card. The edges have been inked with the same green from the front, and the butterfly stamped in the same blue.

And as a special bonus, the winner will also win this card! :)

Skipping Stones Butterfly Dreams

Here is a list of today’s bloggers. Check out their projects, which will also be up for auction! Amazing talent, all for a wonderful cause!

Good luck bidding and thanks for helping out such a worthy cause! thanks for stopping by!

snowmen

Warm Winter Wishes Snowman

Who can resist a darling snowman image? Especially when they both come in the same stamp set!!! I colored these snowman, but imagine the possibilities with paper piecing too!

The mesh from Creative Impressions was easy to pleat and create an interesting border. I just tucked a few glue dots in the upper parts of the pleats. It held very well.

Chase Snowflakes Snowman

This one just makes me smile. :)

Have a wonderful day! thanks for stopping by!

Christmas birds

Festive Wishes

Some more Stampendous projects for you, these with birds in the images.

This first card is an interesting mix of techniques. The bird is colored with Copics, but the background is embossed. Using a Versamark Watermark Pen, I wet each layer down, applied and heat set different colored embossing powders. It made for an interesting background. You can see that I also embossed the berries on the branch. The red powder spread a little, but I thought the effect looked pretty neat. See the three dots in the right corner? I didn’t have the right color or finish I needed, so I took a hole punch and popped out three dots from the center of a velvet heart sticker. Gotta love necessity making you be creative.

Supplies: Stamps (Stampendous-Cling Festive Wishes, Cling Chickadee), Embossing Powder (Scenic Selection Embossing Powder Kit ), Versamark Watermark Ink Pen, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, Stickers-(Class a Peel-Soft Hearts), Copics, Neenah Solar White CS, Branch-Hobby Lobby, Spellbinders-Classic Rectangle Large

Seasons Greetings

Simple coloring here, but making the bird pop is lots of fun. One coloring tip-when coloring a scene like this, don’t add much contrast to the background images, meaning the ones farther back. When you look at something far away, it doesn’t have much detail. But add the detail/contrast to the forefront.

Supplies: Stamps (Stampendous-Cling Cardinal Path Set, Chris-Moose Greetings Perfectly Clear (Sentiment)), Copics, Neenah Solar White CS, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, Making Memories PP

thoughts warm my heart

I thought adding the Classic Heart from Spellbinders shape would make an interesting card, with the little red birds. (Sometimes I color my images and make the card around the image. :))

thoughts warm CU

A close look at the coloring. I used a W3 to add some shadows to the snow. The W3 has a natural look to it, versus the C3 which is cold and more metallic in color. Coloring the tree trunk was a ton of fun too. I used the lines in the stamp image to assist my coloring. It was a good guide for where to add highlights and shadows.

Supplies: Stamps (Stampendous-Yule Penguins Perfectly Clear (Sentiment), Cling Feeding Birds Scene), Copics, Spellbinders Classic Heart, Buttons, Twine-May Arts

Have you started your Christmas cards yet? Do you make your cards? We have been doing photo cards since the little man was born. We waited so long to be able to have a reason to send them! :)

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

more cute Christmas critters

Polar Bears

This totally reminds me of the Coca Cola commercials at Christmas time. Makes you smile and wish that polar bears really were cuddly! :) At least these ones are!

Polar Bears CU

Here is an image that essentially is white, so to add depth, I added shadows with a natural grey, W3.

Supplies: Stamps (Stampendous-Cling Polar Path Set, Cling Snowfall), Copics, Bazzill, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, Versamark Watermark Ink, Spellbinders Eyelet Circles

Merry Chris-Moose

Cute moose. Cute coat on the moose. Loving the plaid background image in this set!! You would never know it, but it doesn’t line up perfectly. And it still works. Brilliant.

Supplies: Stamps (Stampendous-Chris-Moose Greetings), Copics, Neenah Solar White CS, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, Versamark Watermark Ink, Ribbon-Creative Impressions

***Well, the Christmas card ideas are going to keep coming this week! Which works out perfectly, because it is a special week at Moxie Fab World and Paper Crafts ConnectionHoliday Cards and More release party week!!! Oh my. What an issue. Amazing issue! SO full of inspiration!! Fun, fun, fun is planned for this week. Make sure to stop to those blogs daily and check it all out!! And I will be having some fun with them on Friday-stay tuned! Big winnings… :)

cutie patooties

Bundles of Warm Wishes

These girl images from Stampendous are SO cute!! And a ton of fun to color.

Bundles CU

Here is a close-up look at the coloring, which was done with Copics. I made her cheeks extra pink. Like she just came in from playing outside in the snow.

Bake Memories Recipe Book

When I saw this image, I immediately thought of my grandma and how she taught me how to make the traditional Swedish and Norwegian Christmas cookies that our family loves. Making a special recipe book was perfect!!

Bake Memories CU

I made the background behind the girl yellow because I wanted it to have a warm glow, like the holidays. I also stamped the image twice, so I could color and cut out the gingerbread men to give the project depth.

Bake Memories Recipe Book Cards

Here is a look at the recipe cards. I stamped the lines twice, but only after I stamped the little images on the bottom.

So, I said I wasn’t ready for Halloween projects, and am I SO not ready for Christmas projects. :) With the holidays, I am kind of anti-decorating. Come on, we just moved into the house and we barely have things where we want them. Can’t we enjoy it for a while, before changing it all?! LOL! :) Don’t worry, I will give in and decorate, because I cannot help myself. :)

BTW-All next week, I have Christmas cards lined up, which works out perfectly with Paper Crafts Magazine releasing the special issue, Holiday Cards and More! Be sure and stop back next week, you don't want to miss out! :)

Have a fantastic weekend! thanks for stopping by!

Halloween projects

Give Me All Your Candy Bucket

Yay! I get to share all my Stampendous projects with you! Today’s post will be all about Halloween. This first project uses a small, clear pail from Stampendous. At 4,” its the perfect size for a little treat.

Give Me CU

This dracula is pretty cute, although the little man didn’t think he wanted to look like this! :) I colored him with Copics and added a small touch of Tiger Lily glitter to his shirt.

Supplies: All Stampendous, unless noted. Stamp (Cling-Give Candy), Pail (Short 4”), Black Circle Stickers (Class a Peel Jumbo Circles Black), Glitter (Tiger Lily from Tricks and Treats Fringe Benefit Kit), Ribbon (Creative Impressions), Spellbinders (Standard Tags), Thread (DMC), Button (Stash),Copics, Ink-Memento Tuxedo Black

Boot-iful Halloween

Every girl has to love this one-look at those boots! :) To create the label shape for the sentiment, I die cut the new Labels Seventeen shape and left the paper inside the die template. I then took my airbrush system for my Copics and sprayed a bright orange. The sentiment was stamped in black ink afterwards.

Supplies: Stamp (Cling-Bootiful Boots Set), Ink (Memento Tuxedo Black), Copics & Airbrush System ABS-1, Spellbinders (Labels Seventeen)

Hang Out Halloween

And once last card, this one using the resist embossing technique. (Video tutorial HERE) And one thing to mention, a valuable tip, when you are embossing any image, but especially one with fine details, such as this, grab a detail embossing powder. Stampendous makes the best detail powers. So good, in fact, I use them all the time. Always have.

Supplies: Stamp (Cling Hang Out, Cling Spider Web Set), Embossing Powder (Clear Detail), Ink (Versamark Watermark) (Palette Noir) (Distress Ranger-Peeled Paint)

Stay tuned for Christmas projects, tons of inspiration for your holiday cards. Scary to be thinking about that already, isn’t it? :) thanks so much for stopping by!

Its my "baby" sister's birthday today!! Happy Birthday to my most wonderful, brave, strong, talented, and fabulous sister!!! I love you!!
