Avocado Arts Kit #1

Kit 1 wishing you clouds background

Happy June! I hope that you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I am happy to be sharing another Avocado Arts project with you today! From now on, the first of the month will be a project share. You can take a look at projects from the entire team, using the kit that will be released for the month. Today we are all sharing projects from Kit 1, Wishing you Sunshine and Smiles. And not meaning to be punny, I couldn’t “resist” playing with the clouds from this set again. :)

Kit 1 wishing you clouds background CU clouds

I began by stamping the solid and open cloud images with watermark ink onto a piece of white cardstock. Then using clear embossing powder, I heat embossed the clouds. I spritzed water onto a paper towel and rubbed the paper towel across the top of a Faber Castell gelato. Then, using a circular motion, rubbed the color over the cardstock. The clouds resisted the color, leaving a pretty cute patterned paper behind. Now, you won’t get a perfectly white resist applying color this way, but just wipe the excess blue color off with the paper towel and it will look great.

Kit 1 wishing you clouds background CU boots

The boots I stamped onto Neenah cardstock with Memento ink. Colored them with Copic markers and cut them out. I foam mounted the boots to  a die cut Spellbinders Labels Eight piece of patterned paper. Then I stamped the sentiment in black ink. I trimmed off the excess, following the edge of the card base.

simple and sweet with Avocado Arts

just saying hello flower

Hello! Today it is going to be simple and sweet with Avocado Art’s first stamp set release, Sunshine and Smiles. :) I stamped the grass on a separate piece of cardstock, trimmed it out and mounted it to cardstock. Then I stamped the flower stem, the sentiment, and a couple of butterflies. The flower was made by die cutting a couple of flowers and adding a button center. Quick, easy, and cute.

Make sure you stop over and visit the Avocado Arts blog for some new stamp news and to see all the projects from the amazing design team!

lots of fun happening with Avocado Arts

To start off the fun, Paper Crafts Magazine is having a fun give away on their Facebook page, with Avocado Arts. Pop on over today (keep checking, not sure on the timing) and “like” Avocado Arts for a chance to win. And the winning is good. :)

Avocado Arts has a fun announcement on their Avocado Arts website today about MORE STAMPS!! These stamps are not part of the regular stamp club. They are perfect for scrapbooking, and of course cards. :) My brain is swimming with ideas for each of these sets. They have so many possibilities and they will work with the stamps from the regular club perfectly. I am literally jumping up and down about these stamps!!! :)

These stamps will begin shipping on June 12. And each set measures 4x6 inches.

Strike a Pose:

image

Strike-a-Pose Set Design Fun Facts: This kit was designed with the concept of an old skool viewfinder and/or movie reel with an interactive twist. The viewfinder image is large, the type fits inside each image cell and there are buildable elements. It can also be used as a game spinner. We are planning some movie themed add-ons to this kit in the future.

Say It! Pennant Style:

image

Say It! Pennant Style Fun Facts: This kit utilizes the banner/pennant concept for journaling and page building. There are builder elements provided to create with: a journal block within the pennant, journal word prompts, scallop, star and flower image builders and a whimsical rope to tie it all together.

Avocado Type:

image

AvocadoType Fun Facts: This letter font has been exclusively designed by Lisa for Avocado Arts. The style shown here is all lower-case, provided in two size options. There is a coordinating number set, mini banner image for word building, hearts and flower builders for embellishments or to “dot” the “i’s, “j’s”, etc. When the larger and smaller size type are mixed together it creates a “faux” upper and lower case (see words in Strike-a-Pose and the Say It! Pennant Style). An uppercase of this style is planned for the future.

What do you think? Are you in love? I think these are just darling and I cannot wait to start using them! Head on over to the Avocado Arts website for all the info and ordering. :)

Scrapbook Workshop

scrapbook workshop book cover

Finally, a project I have been working on that can be shared!! :) The fantastic May Flaum asked me to be a contributor to her latest book, Scrapbook Workshop: The Best Techniques From Your Favorite Scrapbook Bloggers. It is available now for pre-order at amazon.com (just click the title in the sentence before this). It will begin shipping some time in August. You can check the amazon.com for more details.

Here is the book description for you:
“There are hundreds of scrapbook designers out there doing fabulous work and showing it online, either in scrapbook community sites or on their own blogs. But much more of a rarity is the blogger who has fabulous ideas and can teach readers how to get a similar look with innovative techniques. In "Scrapbook Workshop", we have brought together popular and up-and-coming scrapbook bloggers who share their techniques along with great layouts, cards and more. For the crafter who isn't interested in blogs, this book serves as an idea book filled with projects and techniques to use again and again. For the scrapbooker, it shares not only ideas, but also introduce them to people to watch and follow for continued inspiration. Both experienced blog savvy scrapbookers will find fresh ideas from favorite bloggers, as well as new blogs to try and people to watch.”

I love, love, love my projects in this book and I cannot wait to see it in real life!! :)

Avocado Arts wishing you sunshine

Kit 1 wishing you sunshine

Another Avocado Arts project for you today!! Super simple and fun.

Kit 1 wishing you sunshine CU

I stamped the solid cloud image from Sunshine and Smiles with watermark ink and heat embossed it with white powder. Its a great way to add interest to a piece of patterned paper.

Make sure and check out the inspiration coming from the whole team on the Avocado Arts blog! And remember, that all comments left on the designer's blogs will be entered into a drawing to win a set of stamps!

It been crazy busy around here, as I am sure it is for the rest of you too. My mom was in the hospital, but is home now. I hate being so far away and getting phone updates. Its tough. I guess there is no graceful way to back out of this line of conversation… :)

photos and musings

Happy Mother's Day! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend, full of love and relaxation! I was spoiled rotten and I am so full of gratitude for my family!

This weekend we headed to the gorgeous garden center near us called, Culver's. Amazing store, full of gorgeous flowers and so much more. Its a trip full of inspiration and happiness. My grandparents were gardeners. Their flower beds were so stunning. I know that my love for flowers comes from them and spending time with them in their gardens.
These beautiful branches (above) were in the parking lot of Culver's. You could not have asked for a more perfect picture taking set up! I used my camera phone to take all of these photos, along with an app called Hipstamatic. And yes, the sky really was that blue!

Ranunculus planted in in the front yard. Having new and different plants at our choosing has been a ton of fun. I did a pretty good job of keeping our flower purchases under control. :)

And a look at a new tiny mole on the little man. Just above his eyebrow. Its so precious. Never thought we would get to the point that a mole on his face could be considered precious, after everything we have gone through. Grateful for this new feeling though. I am so blessed by this amazing gift from God. How did I get so lucky to have him entrusted into my care?

Hug your loved ones today. thanks for stopping by!

Avocado Arts Sunshine and Smiles set

Kit 1 LO bug catching

Ooooh! I am so very excited to share with you my first Avocado Arts project!! This layout uses Sunshine and Smiles, which is available for order NOW! You can order it by clicking on Sunshine and Smiles.
When I saw the small bug in Sunshine and Smiles and a jar die template laying on my table, I knew I had the perfect photo to make a layout with! And it doesn’t hurt that the photo was in need of scrapping. :)

Kit 1 LO bug catching CU 1

The open cloud image from the set was stamped onto patterned paper. Then it was trimmed out and mounted to the layout. Still one of my all time favorite techniques.

Kit 1 LO bug catching CU 2

The big image was stamped into the small jar image. I love this stamp because it could be a bee, a bug, a lightening bug…

Kit 1 LO bug catching CU 3

A cute little flying doodle from the set.

Kit 1 LO bug catching CU 4

And, I adore this grass image!! When I stamp large, solid images like this one, I like to use two different colors of ink. On this project, I used a bright green pigment ink all over. Then I added a darker green ink along the bottom before stamping it onto cardstock.

These stamps have a ton of versatility. Its great to see stamps that can make cute cards and also work on layouts! For more inspiration, check out the rest of the team’s work. And we will continue to bring you projects for the rest of the month!!
