two creative techniques for stencils: MFT Creative Challenge

I love this monthly post from the MFT Stamps design team! The Creative Challenge is where the design team is tasked with using our products creatively.! To play with paper crafting supplies and see what the possibilities are? Heavenly! And today's challenge is a personal favorite of mine, stencils!

My first card of the day. A basic idea, misting color through this Fishnet stencil and leaving the pattern behind. But check out exactly how I created the color!

To create this beautiful, shimmery background, I created my own color mists using Mix-ABLES Sheer Shimmer Mist and Gelatos. Gelatos are an amazing color medium that MFT Stamps is now carrying in the store! I couldn't be more excited!

Scrape some of the Gelatos off using a tool. Use small piles to make it easier to place into the mini mister.

Place the color into your mini mister. There really isn't an exact science to how much color to use. And the best part is, its no worry because if you want more color, just scrape more color into the mister.

Pour your Mix-ABLES Sheer Shimmer Mist into the mini mister. I pour until about half way up, or so. Again, no science here Just fun.

Close the mini mister and shake until the color disperses. Keep this too! While the Gelatos may separate from the mist, simply shake it up again and you can use it again! If you want, I have an old video tutorial on how to create your own mists. Check out the links at the bottom of the post.

I finished the card off with a sentiment from Friends Like Us stamped in Hybrid Black Licorice ink. I chose the Hybrid formula because I knew it would stamp on the misted background solidly and cleanly.

The butterflies are Vellum die cut with Die-namics Winged Beauties.

Same stencil, Fishnet Stencil, on this card, but an entirely different technique. Simple and easy and it yields gorgeous results!

On Smooth White cardstock, I applied two colors of Gelatos directly to my paper. Then I spread them around with my finger to evenly cover the paper. I placed my Fishnet Stencil over the color. Then using a baby wipe (or you could use a damp paper towel) I removed the color by pressing the wipe over the stencil openings. Be sure and click the photo above to get a better look at how cool this technique is!

I finished the card with a sentiment from Totally Happy that was heat embossed in gold on a piece of vellum.
