layering inks+video tutorial: MFT April Ingenious Inking Challenge

Welcome to the April MFT Stamps Ingenious Inking challenge! This month our challenge was to layer inks. Layer for color. MFT dye-based inks are perfect for all kinds of layering and building color depth. Take a look at a couple of ways that you can layer your inks!

For my first card, I started out simple. By using stamps with two images (or parts) to be inked, I can easily add more color to my project! MFT dye-based inks are translucent, so they stand up on their own, but allow other color to shine through as well.

You can see on my popsicles from You're The Sweetest, how beautifully the inks work together. After die cutting Sweet Tooth cardstock with Die-namics You're The Sweetest, I stamped the first popsicle base image with Coral Crush ink. Then I stamped the lines for the popsicle with Persimmon ink. The same process was repeated for the second popsicle, but with Banana Split and Lemon Drop inks.

One other way that you can layer MFT inks is by stamping with the Hybrid Ink pads. On the Coral Crush cardstock panel, I stamped Polka Dot Background with Coral Crush ink. To keep the sentiment from being blotchy because of possible resisting of the ink underneath, I stamped it with Hybrid Black Licorice ink. The Hybrid formula of ink gives you a solid impression.

This card takes ink layering to another level! By blending inks on a panel of cardstock, you can create some gorgeous backgrounds!

On a piece of Sweet Tooth cardstock, I began applying inks. I started at the top with Razzle Berry ink. The ink was applied with a Mini Ink Blending Tool. That tool, when used in a circular motion, creates a solid layer of color that can be blended into the next color.

Once the background was created, I cut the cardstock with Die-namics Vertical Stitched Strips to create a panel to use on my card.

Going in rainbow order, I started with Razzle Berry, then Orange Fizz, and finally Daffodil inks.
How beautiful is that?!

I continued with Green Room and then Lush Lagoon inks. I made a video tutorial for you to watch, because sometimes words just cannot explain things well enough.

And I know that watching me ink a piece of cardstock for 7 minutes is essential to your day. :D There are some good tips I share along the way, so take a look and laugh at some of my random dialogue.

Ok, so who is ready to ink all the things?!? I am! Its addicting! Visit the MFT Blog to see all the ways the rest of the team has layered their inks. As always, I cannot wait to see what I will learn today! And check out the special announcement made yesterday too!

thanks for stopping by!
