Typically I am not a sketch user, but I found these sketches made creating projects flow easily and quickly. These sketches are easily adapted to mixed media projects, or even scrapbooking. I mean, look at that cover! I am totally making those candles on the little man’s next birthday page! And on days where the mojo just isn’t around , I will be grabbing this issue for inspiration!
I took the sketch very literally because the whole thing just spoke to me and my usual style. To create the panel with the sentiment, I die cut a journaling card with Spellbinders Labels Seventeen (just use a little low-tack tape to hold the die template in place while cutting). And I just had to use one of my favorite lines from CHA, Kaiser Craft’s Miss Nelly.

Pretty card, but I'm sorry I can't really help with the training wheels. My daughter never mastered riding because she has inner ear and balance issues.

Love your card! Gorgeous! When my boys were learning to ride a bike we just kept raising the training wheels a little at a time until they really weren't using them anymore. When the training wheels came off, the boys practiced on the lawn first. Made any falls less painful than the sidewalk or driveway. Good luck!

My youngest daughter was the one holding our family back from bike riding. My husband said that once EVERYONE could ride their bike, we would be treated to pizza and ice cream. It only took her a couple of days! ;) So basically, BRIBERY works...or you can call it an INCENTIVE to make yourself feel better. ;)
I think it takes time and positive reinforcement. That's what worked for me. That and the fact that I'm stubborn. I think you little man will get the hang of riding a bike soon enough.
Perfect! I find hard putting more than one layer on a card but you make it look so easy! Love it!

Beautiful card!!! And as far as the bike without training wheels, the best tip I have is for mom not to watch! I stressed out way too much watching my girls try to figure it out - just worrying that they were going to fall and hurt themselves...when I finally left them alone, they figured it out on their own, and couldn't wait to show me!!! Don't know if it will work or not, but that did it for us!!!

I agree with Pam. We would raise their training wheels a little at a time. We are working on our 3 year old grandson learning to ride. His dad says let him go....he'll learn...but Grandma runs beside him to catch him if he falls. I'll sure be glad when he learns how to ride though....'bout to wear grandma out. Beautiful -- like your use of pattern paper background. As for riding a bike -- it has been a lot of years since my two learned to ride without training wheels. From what I remember though was that the training wheels may have let them "think" they were riding a two-wheeler but it wasn't until the training wheels were off that they were able to get their balance -- so let your little guy go for it and tell him he may fall but he will get the hang of it. Good luck -- I remember how hard it was watching them wipe out too!

You've done an awesome job. Let me just say that when teaching a child to ride, the most important thing is to NOT let them say the words, "I can't". Encourage him that he CAN do it, and put those words right out the window. It's a monumental moment, so SCRAP IT! Good luck, and thanks for sharing!

This is lovely, Kimberly - the papers are wonderful and your card is so romantic. My advice is that if he feels he can go without, then don't hover......that will just make him nervous, and he'll be watching you instead of concentrating on the task at hand. If he falls off, he'll either get back up and try again, or decide to wait a bit longer....either way, he learns a life lesson. It's hard watching them grow up, isn't it?

Hi Kimberly...let me say that I LOVE your card...this is totally my style. The colors & papers you used are super cute and you did a great job.
My "little man" will be 16 in a couple of weeks so I had to think back to when he was still using training wheels. We did what my parents did for me...we just raised the training wheels a little at a time and when he felt confident..we raised them some more..before he knew it he was off riding on his own with the training wheels nowhere near the pavement. Good luck with your little man and enjoy this age...they grow so fast.

OK...looks like another Spellbinders die I must invest in! ;) Your card looks fabulous.
Now about your bike-training issue...my neighbor used a belt to help hold her child up when he needed balance/support, instead of holding the back of the bike, pushing it along as her son pedaled. It helped her back tremendously.
We just kept going with my son - and eventually he got fast enough w/ his pedals that he got it. Not the same luck with my daughter, though. She STILL keeps putting her feet down b/c she's afraid to go too fast!
Best wishes to you - I know it's hard, but if your son wants to do it, he'll be able to push through his fear!

I love your beautiful card, especially how you positioned the flowers on the bottom of your Spellbinders die cut! I'll have to remember that one!! And as far as helping your little guy on the bike, my husband did the running along thing and then letting go (behind our daughters back) and she went on without him without knowing that she was doing it all herself. Not a new idea, I'm sure, but it seems to work!!

i love your pretty card! Have your son try riding on the grass first! slower going and easier to get the balance set.
Sorry, forgot to leave the tip! Grass idea is good, also take him to a park or field with big flat area so he can practice, then move on to school parking lot when school is not in session! Works for learning to drive a car too-we spent lots of time practice driving and parking at the neighborhood school parking lot--evenings and weekends!
