flamingos! MFT May Release Countdown

Each day we are getting a little closer to the release! Today's products are hands-down my absolute favorite! Flamingos! Laina Lamb is just a brilliant designer! She is always trendy and thinks of everything!

I took this photo of real flamingos this past winter in Florida. I love their colors and the way they stand! They are just amazing! This photo, and a recent weekend trip to an art festival called, Chalk the Walk, were the inspiration behind my card today.

Instead of the traditional way of using these die cut images, check out how I use them as stencils!

To create the background scene, I started by die cutting Die-namics Flamingos from cardstock,
to use as a mask. Using chalk pastels, I applied an oval of blue to Sweet Tooth cardstock, along with an outer edge of green. (to apply the chalk pastels, I used my fingers, easiest method and the easiest to control)

Then I added dark green palm leaves. To create this "stencil," I die cut cardstock with Die-namics Palm Tree. Using the negative, I outlined the leaf with dark green and keeping my "stencil" in place, added the lighter green.

To create the flamingos, I used the left-over piece of cardstock from my original die cutting. Pretty cool, huh? By placing this "stencil" over my white space, it made it easy to layer colors and create the image.

When I removed the "stencil" each time, I did have white lines left around the image. I simply filled those in with more chalk and carefully blended it in to the rest of the image.

To add more depth to the flamingos, I die cut two wings with Die-namics Flamingos and colored them with the chalk pastels to match.

One last layer, some brighter leaves. More Sweet Tooth cardstock was cut with Die-namics Palm Tree and colored with chalk pastels. Layering three colors really made them pop.

And the final touch, the sentiment from Tickled Pink. This set of sentiments is spectacular! The font choice is perfect, as well as all the wording!

Visit the MFT Blog for all the details, including a closer look at all the amazing parts of both of these products! And see what the rest of the team has created too-its just wow!

thanks for stopping by!
