Welcome to the January MFT Stamps design team Creative Challenge! This month is all about the hearts. With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, its the perfect time for the team to share the love!
My project today is a card that is meant to mimic string art. String art has been gaining in popularity lately, so much more trendy and hip than the past! I was completely inspired by a string art project I saw at CHA created by Cosmo Cricket's Julie Comstock. It was so stunning, I just had to try and recreate it from paper!
I started with Die-namics Stitchable Heart STAX, a piece of Chocolate Brown cardstock, and a pile of brads. Because there were so many holes, I decided to only put brads in every other opening.
My next step was to somehow re-create the gorgeous ombre yarn used on the project. I had
hemp cord, which would work better for my smaller project, but how could I color it? I thought, why not try re-inkers?
I placed a small amount of water in the bottom of a plastic container, along with several drops of Brick Red re-inker. I swished the two together and placed my hemp cord in the color. I left it there for a little while, nothing special, just until the color was the intensity I wanted.
I repeated the process with Peach Bellini re-inker. And of course, I changed the water and wiped the plastic container clean before hand. I also put another part of the cording into the color.
One last color, Persimmon re-inker. I again moved the cording around.
How gorgeous did this turn out? I have tons left over and I cannot wait to find another project to use it on!
After it dried, I started wrapping the hemp cord around the brads, moving from top to bottom. There about about a million ways to do this, but with the smaller scale of my supplies, this pattern worked best.
I stamped Wood Plank Background with Steel Grey ink onto Steel Grey cardstock. The edges were inked with Natural ink. I also distressed the edges. The word "smitten" was stamped with Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. "Smitten" is from the new stamp set, Smitten with You.
