smile wood pallet home decor

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share a favorite project of mine. I made this wood pallet piece of home decor for the Go-To-Gal's Sparks column of March 2015 issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine. You all know how hopelessly I am addicted to these wood pallets and all projects using them! This was really easy to create and would make a wonderful gift to give someone this holiday season!

This wood pallet is from the Jillibean Soup line, Mix the Media. It measures 6x6x2 inches. Perfect for any small spot. It stands on its own, but comes with a solid piece of twine attached to the back for hanging.

I started by placing a Mix the Media Simple Dot Stencil over the top of the wood. Securing it in place with tape, I applied white paint through the stencil. Not worrying about how perfect it would look, as I wanted a rustic feel.

Then I die cut a piece of Jillibean Soup paper, Record Your Number, with MFT Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX. I foam mounted it to the wood pallet (once the paint was dry, of course).

I layered a notebook tag, kraft tag, and washi tape onto the pennant shape, along with a cool metal word, smile, from Jillibean Soup. (To adhere the word smile, I used glue along the back of each letter, a very fine line of glue.)

For the flowers, I die cut thin muslin fabric with MFT Die-namics Mini Royal Roses. They die cut into a spiral shape, so you roll from the outside to the center. The tighter you roll, the smaller the flower, and vice versa.

The leaves were fun to create. I used Paper Twine Cording from Maya Road. The paper cording is tissue paper that has been wound into, well, twine. You can unroll it, or use it as is. I love that I can bend it and make a sharp crease that creates leaves! The open look worked perfect for this project-letting the wood pallet shine through!

What a great thought! Think happy. Be happy!

thanks for stopping by!
