MFT Release Countdown-making shabby modern

Welcome to this month's Release Countdown with My Favorite Things! You will find complete details each day on the MFT Blog, including how you can win prizes and full reveals of featured products.

You know I love the country shabby look and Mini Chicken Wire Background has me swooning, but today, I thought I would channel my inner modern girl. Be hip, or something like that.

I stamped Mini Chicken Wire Background onto Primitive White cardstock with Sno Cone ink. Then, I colored in random hexagons with Copic markers. Hexagons are trendy and hip, along with the confetti look. Pretty fun, huh?

To finish off my card, I die cut Die-namics Words of Gratitude from both Steel Grey and Blu Raspberry cardstocks. The shadow effect adds so much dimension and pop. I have to remember to try this more often, especially with all the wonderful words MFT has in its collection!

This second card just happened. I had what I like to call a "pile of awesomeness" on my desk. I randomly stamp paper, create die cuts, and on and on. Eventually something clicks and a card happens. :)

Die-namics Words of Gratitude was my choice and I went fall with my colors and used Tangy Orange cardstock. Its layered on a piece of Kraft cardstock that was stamped with Burlap Background. It needed some oomph, so I die cut the panel with Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX. Liking the look, I added more. A small layer of Blu Raspberry cardstock, and a larger one from Tangy Orange that was stamped with Fine Check Background.

To make all these layers more cohesive, I did two things to each layer. First, I inked the edges with Natural ink. Secondly, I distressed the edges with a tool. By doing those two things, my layers all appear to be in more harmony with one another.

The card still needed something, so I grabbed this leaf I had die cut from metallic gold paper using
Die-namics Falling Leaves. That set is really, really, pretty! Oh, and one more thing, I embossed. With a stencil. Again. They are like embossing folders to me now. For this card, I used Stencil Diagonal Stripes. I have been going a little crazy with that technique this month, and if you want to see how easy it is to do, check out my video tutorial here: Embossing with Stencils.

We are getting ever so close to shopping time! Be sure and head to the MFT Blog for details, chances to win, and head to SCS for our week-long release chat. Did you know that MFT shares secrets there sometimes? I read a couple of pretty cool rumors already! :)

thanks for stopping by!

Both cards are so fun and "hip!"
I do love the first one, with all of the colorful hexagons. The second card is much more traditional and everything you did looks great on kraft card stock :-)

One of my favorite backgrounds is the mini chicken wire, but I've never colored in the spaces--thanks for that idea. The second card, I like that background and how it is slanted a bit. Good job, Kimberly.

Kimberly,
I love your chicken wire and coloring on the first card and how you used layering to repeat the coloring (and/or vice versa) on the card itself and the word thankful. I also love the layers of flag dies and variety of textured backgrounds on the second cards -- and thanks for the video! Beautiful stuff and generous sharing, thank you so much!
