Tutorial DIY Sequins and Shakers: MFT Release Countdown

Welcome to this month's Release Countdown with My Favorite Things! You will find complete details each day on the MFT Blog, including how you can win prizes and full reveals of featured products.

When I first saw Die-namics Sequins I squealed and jumped for joy! How incredibly clever is this set of
Die-namics? Die cutting my own sequins?!?!? From any material I want?!?! What?!?! Genuis!! I kept the rows attached, making it easy to make an awesome pile of sequins

A close-up look at the die cut sequins. I really like how there are faceted and non-faceted pieces.

So, then I started to go crazy die cutting. I started with gold foil paper, glitter paper, wood paper, and then pow! Why not transparencies?!?!? (Tip: use office transparencies, not clear card bases, I could not get the card bases to cut.)

You see where this is going, right?

Because MFT has the fabulous new Hybrid inks...I could COLOR MY SEQUINS ANY COLOR! Providing I have the ink, of course. EEEEEEE!!! Obviously, adding color to my pile of little sequins was not going to be possible. So, I went back and applied Hybrid Razzle Berry ink to the surface of my transparency with a sponge. I did a couple of coats. First I rubbed the ink over the surface and then for the second application, I sponged it. Remember, on surfaces like this, the ink must be heat set. Pass your embossing tool over the surface of the transparency for a minute or so, being sure to not leave it in one place too long.

Look! EEEEEE! Sorry, but I am soooo excited about this! I tried lots of colors and I found that the more intense colors were more effective, but they are all awesome!

And then there is this darling stamp set, You Were Meant to Sparkle, that coordinates!

I added different die cut sequins and used the cute sequin images from the stamp set. There are both open and solid sequin images. Plus a ton of cute sentiments!!

You can't have the ability to make sequins and not make a shaker card! :)

To make the shaker, I started by die cutting Die-namics Bright Lights Alphabet from Smooth White cardstock. To keep the dies in place while I cut, I used low-tack tape to secure them.

To keep my die cut sequins from falling out the front of the card, I adhered a piece of transparency behind the letters with Crafty Power Tape.

And then to keep the die cut sequins behind the letters, I used Crafty Foam Tape to create a little box for the sequins.

I poured several different colors and sizes of die cut sequins into the little space.

I removed the backing from the tape and applied a piece of cardstock to back the letters. I always cut a piece a teeny, tiny bit smaller than the base piece. This makes it easier to hold the sequins in place. Can you imagine the mess if I tried to pick it up and put it down? Keeping it face down makes life better. :)

Here it is, the finished shaker box, ready for my card. Who is ready to go shaker and die cut sequin crazy?!?!

Well, I am into tissue box three, but I think I am starting to feel better...maybe I shouldn't say that out loud...be sure and head over to the MFT Blog and see what everyone else is up to. The cards I have been seeing are amazing. Just wow.

thanks for stopping by!
