Monarch butterflies

monarch butterfly 2013 wm

Just popping in quick to say hi and to share a photo I took this morning. The Monarch butterfly migration has begun. I love this time of year because we are in their flight path. Our yard is often full of these beauties. Their numbers are way down, so we shall see how many we actually get. We have been registering our sightings and look forward to participating in the tagging of the Monarchs. The tagging is important to the tracking of these lovely creatures. Scientists can follow their migration and learn much about their lives. One very cool thing about living in Eastern Iowa!

Be sure and stop back tomorrow because the Go-To-Gals have a fun little hop happening!

thanks for stopping by!

Hi Kimberly,

I've been a fan of your blog for several years. Your cards are such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing this beautiful photo! It's actually a Viceroy butterfly, not a monarch.

I work with Journey North and we would love to feature your photo as an Image of the Week in an upcoming update about how to tell the difference between monarchs and lookalike butterflies. Let me know if you would be willing to share your stunning image of this Viceroy with our readers.

Thanks,
Rita

Here's a link from the Journey North website that shows the difference between monarchs and Viceroys:
