gratitude day 6

Today’s gratitude: A wonderful new neighborhood. Yesterday the ladies in the neighborhood all chipped in and rented a charter bus to spend the day shopping in Chicago. Talk about fun! And the weekend we moved in, they had their 6th annual Parkapalooza in the common area. At least a dozen people stopped over to invite us, or left fliers inviting us on the front door. Everyone knows each other, they know each other’s children, and watch out for one another. We are glad that they have been welcoming and helpful. Sure makes life in a new place easier.

So, the roast beef in the crock pot wasn’t really a recipe, therefore my guilt has prompted me to give you a real crock pot recipe. :) This is one that my hubby and I played around with until we got it “right.” It makes quite a bit, we get two dinners, and it reheats beautifully.

Steak Hi Hat

  • 1 lb. cubed stew beef
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (I use 98% fat free, salt free)
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (same type)
  • 1 can (5 oz) tomato sauce
  • garlic to personal taste
  • salt & pepper to add flavor
  • 1 small onion chopped finely
  • Worcestershire sauce about 3 Tbsp
  • 1 package white mushrooms
  • 1/2 c. sour cream

Put all ingredients in the crock pot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. In the last half an hour, add the sour cream. Serve over noodles.

What are you thankful for today? thanks for stopping by!

It sounds like a wonderful area to live. That is the way things used to be. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and when my children were growing up, our block was like that too. It's nice to hear that there are still some areas where neighbors are really neighbors.

Your recipe sounds really good-wish DH liked sour cream!

I am thankful for traveling safety. I have two grown daughters who live nearby in their own homes-neither are married as yet. One went with a friend to St. Louis yesterday to shop, eat at Pujols 5 and for a John Mellencamp concert-St. Louis is about 3 hours away. The other daughter went to a friends to ride 4-wheelers, have supper and watch Missouri football. I am always thankful when they are home safely!!

I'm thankful for friends today - spent an afternoon with one at a stamping class yesterday, and she's bringing her family for lunch today. I am blessed by my friendships in so many ways!

I always loved that sense of community and neighborhood in Iowa. Especially when you're new to the area.

We moved to a neighborhood like yours about 3.5 years ago and we still feel so blessed. Today I am thankful for the extra hour. I usually don't like time change at all but this time I really needed it.

Today I shopped all day, definitely power shopping for some great Christmas crafting bargains and smaller sized clothing. Thank you Lord for today. I can see the results of going to the gym as I had the energy to shop (all day) and the need for smaller sized clothing.

Thankful that our granddaughter and her roommate had safe travel back to college; for the freedom to worship at a good church; for the Bears win (definitely not a team for the faint of heart); and for a pasta dinner with kids and grandkids.

I am thankful for my faith in the Lord up above that gets me through difficult and stressful situations......I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and the Lord will never give me anything I can't handle.
